Foundless - Diminishing
Following the success of his single “Funk Decision,” Foundless returns to the Maison Fauna imprint with the “Diminishing.” Containing three fusion dancefloor hits, the EP starts off with a deceptive title track; at first, it seems like a chill, transportative house number. Then, it explodes into a pumping, rhythmic banger with staccato rimshots and a bubbly bassline. This evolution mirrors the current climate, where — with the clubs closed — dance music is morphing into something more, something accessible off the dancefloor. Next, we have “Disbelief,” a track that one can imagine sinking into, poolside, margarita-in-hand. Saturated with silky pads, enveloping vocals, and minimal percussion, “Disbelief” sets a different and equally satisfying tone. Completing the project is “I Don’t Wanna Go,” a Lofi and deep house fusion that is both of-the-moment and imbued with tangible nostalgia. The statement Foundless makes with this 3-track EP is astonishing. Not only is it a re-imagination of dance music into something that can be enjoyed in any environment, but it’s also an emotive, empathetic work that doesn’t try to pull the wool over our eyes: right now, things are not the same. Despite this, Foundless reminds us, music still has the power to bring us overpowering joy.
